Segregação! Que palavra feia! Acontece quando eu aceito, luto, defendo que o meu grupo tem mais direitos do que os outros!

Acontece quando aceito que o meu grupo pode fazer o que lhe apetece e os outros não!

Acontece quando eu perco a noção de que a sociedade é composta por diferentes individuos, com diferentes ideologias e não há respeito por todos.

Acontece quando eu aceito que uns podem utilizar violência para justificar as suas acções e os outros não.

É dar mais direitos, oportunidades, poder a um determinado grupo baseado em qualquer outro valor que não seja o mérito.

É não vêr verdadeiramente o outro, porque não me importo, porque sou ganacioso, porque “quero lá saber”, porque não me consigo colocar no lugar do outro.

Acontece quando decido generalizar o que deveria ser visto como singular.

E, infelizmente é uma realidade e temos TODOS que fazer alguma coisa para que isso PÁRE!  Ouvimos muitas vozes a gritar “Liberdade! Direitos!” sem que se lembrem a frase de Voltaire: “Posso não concordar com nenhuma das palavras que você disser, mas defenderei até a morte o direito de você dizê-las.” ― Voltaire. 

E aí sim, quando pusermos em prática este ensinamento, talvez consigamos modificar a Humanidade e torná-la mais verdadeiramente Humana!

Segregation! What an ugly word! It happens when I accept, fight for, or defend the idea that my group has more rights than others.

It happens when I believe my group can do as it pleases while others cannot.

It happens when I lose sight of the fact that society is made up of individuals—each different, each unique, each with their own ideologies—and I fail to respect them all.

It happens when I accept that some may use violence to justify their actions while others may not.

It is the act of granting more rights, more opportunities, more power to a particular group based on anything other than merit.

It is failing to truly see the other—because I do not care, because I am greedy, because I think, why should I bother? Because I cannot place myself in another’s shoes.

It happens when I choose to generalize what should be seen as individual.

And sadly, it is a reality. One we must ALL work to end!

We hear so many voices shouting Freedom! Rights! yet they forget Voltaire’s words:
“I may disagree with everything you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

And perhaps, when we truly put these words into practice, we will finally begin to transform humanity—making it more genuinely human.
