Today is a day that always made my heart skip with excitement when I was little. It didn’t have to be grand—a slice of my favorite cake to share with family, a surprise trip to the movies, a morning ride to school (I usually walked!), or something as simple as a scented pen—yes, I am from the era of scented pens, and proudly so. ✨

What mattered most was the surprise. The joy. The magic of feeling seen and celebrated.

I grew up in a home that celebrated life—truly celebrated it. Everyone had known hardship in one way or another, so when happiness showed up, we opened the door wide and let it dance in. We believed that any reason was a good reason to add light to the day. That’s how I learned gratitude—not through grand speeches, but in the little moments that whispered, “You matter.”

As I grew older, I came to understand there was more to this day than the joy of surprise gifts. I learned about a powerful and beautiful promise made to all children: Children’s Rights. At the heart of it is something simple yet profound—that every child, everywhere, deserves love, protection, and the chance to grow into who they are meant to be.

The document that lays these rights out is truly something magical. Not because of who wrote it, or the institutions behind it, but because of what it dares to say: that children are not just our future—they are our now. And that their safety, joy, learning, and dreams matter. Deeply.

If only we could speak more about these rights—not in shouts, not in debates to win, but in honest, tender conversations. Not to prove we are better than others, but to become better than we were yesterday. Then, maybe, just maybe, these rights would become not only words on paper, but truths we all live by.

So today, let’s do three things:

🎈 Celebrate the children in our lives—whether tiny gigglers or grown-up dreamers.
💫 Celebrate the child that still lives inside you—the one who still finds wonder in rain puddles and starry skies.
💖 And remember the magic of kindness, surprise, and hope.

🌍 The Fundamental Rights of the Child (based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child):

1. The right to be treated equally and protected from discrimination, regardless of race, religion, gender, language, ability, or background.


2. The right to a name and nationality, and to know and be cared for by their parents.


3. The right to life, survival, and development—physically, emotionally, and mentally.


4. The right to be heard, to have their opinions respected in matters affecting them.


5. The right to education, to reach their full potential and grow in knowledge and confidence.


6. The right to play and rest, to enjoy childhood, leisure, and culture.


7. The right to protection from violence, abuse, and neglect, wherever they are.


8. The right to health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a safe environment.


9. The right to family care, or alternative care when needed, with love and dignity.


10. The right to express themselves freely, through words, play, art, and spirit.



These rights are not privileges—they are promises. And each of us holds a tiny spark of responsibility to keep that promise alive.

🌟 Feliz Dia Internacional da Criança 🌟

Este dia sempre fez o meu coração bater mais rápido de alegria quando era pequena. Não precisava de ser nada grandioso, uma fatia do meu bolo preferido partilhado em família, uma ida surpresa ao cinema, boleia para a escola de manhã (normalmente ia a pé!), ou algo tão simples como uma caneta perfumada, sim, sou desse tempo, com muito orgulho. ✨

O que mais importava era a surpresa. A alegria. A magia de me sentir vista e celebrada.

Cresci numa casa que celebrava a vida — celebrava mesmo. Todos tinham passado por momentos difíceis, e por isso, quando a felicidade aparecia, abríamos a porta de par em par e deixávamos que entrasse e dançasse. Acreditávamos que qualquer motivo era um bom motivo para iluminar o dia. Foi assim que aprendi a ser grata,  não com grandes discursos, mas com pequenos gestos que sussurravam: “Tu importas.”

À medida que fui crescendo, comecei a perceber que este dia era mais do que as surpresas e os mimos. Descobri algo poderoso e belo: os Direitos das Crianças. No coração deste dia está uma ideia simples, mas profunda, todas as crianças, em qualquer lugar, merecem amor, proteção, e a oportunidade de crescerem para serem quem verdadeiramente são.

O documento que consagra esses direitos é, a meu ver, algo mágico. Não por quem o escreveu, nem pelas instituições envolvidas, mas pelo que ousa afirmar: que as crianças não são apenas o nosso futuro, são o nosso presente. E que a sua alegria, segurança, aprendizagem e sonhos importam. Importam mesmo.

Se ao menos conseguíssemos falar mais sobre esses direitos, não aos gritos, não para vencer discussões, mas com conversas honestas e ternas. Não para provar que somos melhores do que os outros, mas para sermos melhores do que fomos ontem. Talvez assim esses direitos deixassem de ser só palavras no papel, e passassem a ser verdades vividas no dia a dia.

Por isso, hoje convido-te a fazer três coisas:

🎈 Celebra as crianças à tua volta, sejam elas pequeninas ou já crescidas.
💫 Celebra a criança que ainda vive dentro de ti, aquela que ainda se encanta com poças de água e céus estrelados.
💖 E lembra-te da magia da bondade, da surpresa e da esperança.

🌍 Os Direitos Fundamentais da Criança (baseados na Convenção sobre os Direitos da Criança das Nações Unidas):

1. Direito a ser tratada com igualdade e protegida de qualquer forma de discriminação, independentemente da raça, religião, género, língua, capacidades ou origem.


2. Direito a um nome e a uma nacionalidade, e a conhecer e ser cuidada pelos seus pais.


3. Direito à vida, à sobrevivência e ao desenvolvimento — físico, emocional e mental.


4. Direito a ser ouvida, e a que a sua opinião seja tida em conta em assuntos que a afectem.


5. Direito à educação, para poder crescer em conhecimento, confiança e dignidade.


6. Direito ao descanso e ao brincar, a aproveitar plenamente a infância, o lazer e a cultura.


7. Direito à proteção contra a violência, o abuso e a negligência, onde quer que esteja.


8. Direito aos cuidados de saúde, a água potável, alimentação nutritiva e um ambiente seguro.


9. Direito a viver em família, ou a cuidados alternativos quando necessário, com amor e dignidade.


10. Direito à liberdade de expressão, seja através das palavras, da brincadeira, da arte ou do coração.



Estes direitos não são privilégios — são promessas. E cada um de nós carrega uma pequena faísca da responsabilidade de manter viva essa promessa.
