My friends,
It has been quite the summer.
My finch friends rented the loft. Twice! Well… it isn’t really a loft. It’s just the inside corner of the front porch. And they stay there for free. But I still like to say they rent the loft. It sounds much fancier.
We’ve also had a few new dogs walking through the neighborhood, plenty of bees and butterflies, and lots of conversations worth listening to.
Nothing important enough to make the news…
Well…

Except for the first weekend of last month.
It was such an eventful weekend that I needed a few days to recover before I could tell you all about it.
And believe me…
It was quite a story.
It all started with Diva Smores’ birthday.
Naturally, she received extra Mommy time, special treats, and all her favorite food. Everything was going exactly as Her Majesty expected…
Until the storm arrived.

The wind roared.
The rain poured.
Thunder shook the house.
Lightning flashed across the sky.
And then…
Poof.
The electricity was gone.
Oh, poor Mommy.
She was so worried that Smores and I might be frightened that she ran through the house like a chicken with its head cut off, asking over and over:
“Are you okay? Are you okay?”
Personally, I think she was the one who didn’t enjoy being in the dark.
I certainly didn’t mind.
I’m a black cat. I can see perfectly well. Humans have trouble seeing me, but that’s their problem, not mine.
Still, because Mommy is always concerned about us, I answered as loudly and reassuringly as I could:
“I’m fine!”
I wanted her to hear me.
Earlier that morning, Mommy had beautifully decorated the front porch because the weather had been gorgeous.

Then, through my window, I watched the poor soul run outside into the pouring rain to rescue the porch pillows before they turned into flying machines.
Of course I wanted to help.
Unfortunately…
I was locked in my room.
I told her several times to let me out.
“Not now, Jack,” she kept saying. “Not now.”
If not now…
Then when?
Honestly, Mommy… when?
Perhaps it’s one of those mysterious human expressions, like “It’s raining cats and dogs.”
I’ve looked outside many times.
Never once have I seen a cat or a dog fall from the sky.
By the time Mommy finally came back inside, she was completely soaked. The pillows were dripping, and somehow we had a small pond at the front entrance.
I don’t think having a pond inside the house was part of her decorating plan.
And that was only the beginning…

O Fim de Semana Tempestuoso do Jack – Parte 1: Aniversário à Luz de Velas
Meus amigos,
Tem sido um Verão e tanto!
Os meus amigos tentilhões alugaram o sótão. Duas vezes!

O vento rugia.
A chuva caía a cântaros.
Os trovões faziam estremecer a casa.
Os relâmpagos iluminavam o céu.
E então…
Puf.
Vejo perfeitamente bem.
Infelizmente…
Estava fechado no meu quarto.
