The Good Kind of Silence

Some silences are not absences, but presences, weighted with grief, or loneliness, or the unspoken questions that linger in the air. But there is another silence, the kind that feels like returning to yourself after a long journey away.

This morning, the world offered me that silence. Not the hollow kind, but the quiet of a soul finally allowed to breathe. After a week of noise, of endless motion and the relentless demand to be “doing”, today gave me stillness. And in that stillness, I heard my own thoughts again.

I woke without haste. Sunlight spilled through the windows, a breeze carried the scent of earth and sky, and the birds sang as if time itself had paused to listen. I made coffee slowly—French press, a ritual of patience. I unfolded the old tablecloth, its fabric woven with stories I love to tell, its edges frayed with memory. Nature seemed to lean in and whisper: “Slow down.”So I did.

Breakfast on the porch, Smores at my side. Later, Jack joined me. And in that quiet, I found myself again—not lost in the rush, but present in the ordinary. The sun on my skin, the familiar creak of the porch, the birds’ unhurried songs. Gratitude, not for grand gestures, but for the simple, sacred act of being here, now.

Perhaps that is the secret: ordinary days become extraordinary when we stop long enough to notice them. The world will always urge us to go faster, to do more, to fill every moment with noise. But souls do not thrive at full speed. Sometimes, the deepest self-care is the slow press of coffee, the unhurried listening to birds instead of notifications, the sharing of a meal with those who matter most. Sometimes, it is sitting in the sunshine without apology, without guilt.

I hope you find that good silence today—the kind that lets you hear your own heart. Do not waste time. Take it. For it is often the quiet moments, the ones we almost overlook, that we carry with us the longest.

E eu aceitei a sugestão.

E, naquele silêncio, reencontrei-me.
